Two Cañada Scholars Receive Nation's Largest Private Scholarship for Community College Students
Cañada has not one, but two Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship recipients this year. Violeta Crow and Aldo Garcia will each receive up to $30,000 per year when they transfer to a four-year university in the fall. "This scholarship will allow me to go anywhere I want," said Garcia "I have been accepted to UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Santa Cruz, Santa Clara University, and CalPoly SLO, and I am waiting replies from Cornell, Brown, MIT, Stanford, and Berkeley. I applied to these schools hoping that something would change, because without the scholarship I would have had to settle for the cheapest school or start working in order to save for tuition. Now, I can go to the best school and not worry about the finances."
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship makes it possible for the nation’s top community college students to complete their bachelor’s degrees by transferring to a four-year college or university. The Foundation provides up to $30,000 per year to deserving students selected annually, making it the largest private scholarship for two-year and community college transfer students in the country. Four different Cañada students have received the scholarship over the past six years. "It's quite remarkable and illustrates the high quality of education and student support our students receive," said Cañada College President Tom Mohr.
