Students to Discuss Study Abroad Experience in Egypt
Cañada students traveled to Egypt just before Mubarak's government fell.
A group of Cañada students will discuss their experience traveling in Egypt just before the fall of the Hosni Mubarak government. The event will be held Thursday, March 3 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Building 3, Room 148. The students will read from the journals they kept during their travels and then there will be a special showing of the latest PBS Frontline special on the fall of Egypt. The event is free and open to the public.
Anthropology Professor Jessica Einhorn and 28 students traveled to Egypt for a 10-day educational excursion, staying at a hotel near Tahrir, just before anti-government protests erupted in Cairo.
The class arrived in Cairo on Jan. 7 and departed on Jan. 16. On Jan. 25 as many as 20,000 Egyptians began to protest. The students will share how the place they experienced firsthand was turned from a bustling but placid gathering area to a hot spot that has ignited protests across the Middle East.
As part of the event, the Cañada College International Club will have Egyptian food and snacks available and students can learn how to participate in the next study abroad program in Costa Rica. The college will be sponsoring the trip to Costa Rica in January of 2012. Students who register before the end of March will receive a $200 discount. For more information, contact Einhorn at (650) 306-3311 or Carole Rhodes at (650) 306-3266.
