For Immediate Release September 26, 2011
Cañada College to Stage "Doubt" Oct. 13-23
Two different versions of the play will be produced with alternate endings.
Cañada College Theatre Arts' Production Of Doubt, a Parable by John Patrick Shanley is coming soon!
Doubt is a powerful Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play about a strident, conservative nun (Sister Aloysius) who develops a powerful certainty that the new priest, Father Flynn, is molesting one of the boys in her Catholic school. Lacking any concrete evidence, but armed with her unshakable conviction, she struggles to win what she sees as a morally unambiguous struggle. But is she fighting the good fight, or is she aiming her suspicion at an innocent man? And what is the spiritual price for losing such a struggle – or for winning it?
The college is producing Doubt with two different casts, directed by two different directors - one in which Father Flynn is guilty, and the other in which he is innocent. We are keeping which is which a carefully guarded secret – if you want to know which one you've seen, stay for the brief audience talk-back after the show! And of course you can see them both and experience the difference!
