Two teams ranked in the Top 10 in California collide on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when Cañada hosts Santa Rosa Junior College in the third round of the NorCal Regional Basketball Playoffs. Cañada is ranked seventh in the state while Santa Rosa is ranked ninth. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for faculty, staff, Cañada students, senior citizens and children under 12.
The Colts advanced to the third round in the regional playoffs with a convincing 71-55 victory over San Jose City College Saturday night. Santa Rosa defeated Sequoias 73-57. Cañada and Santa Rosa did not face each other in the regular season.
Santa Rosa will be led by Big 8 All-Conference guards Lorenzo McCloud and Sam Taku. McLoud, a sophomore from Compton, averaged 18.2 points per game, while Taku, a freshman from Tucscon, Arizona, led Santa Rosa with 23 points and five assists in Saturday's playoff victory.
Cañada will be led by Coast North All-Conference guard Peter Pappageorge, a former Burlingame High School star.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early to the game, as it will likely be a standing-room-only affair.
