For Immediate Release April 12, 2012
The College Will Conduct a Lockdown Drill April 18
The drill is designed to help the college provide a safe environment for students and staff.

On Wednesday, April 18, at 10:25 am and 7:15 pm, Cañada College will be conducting lockdown drills on campus. The drill will help identify the best ways to provide for the safety of staff and students in case of an emergency.
Staff, faculty and students are encouraged to provide comments after the drill to help the college improve its safety procedures.
Here is the process that will be used for Wednesday's drill:
- Notification: The loud speaker system will be used to notify the campus that there is a lockdown drill. The announcements will be made at 10:25 a.m. and 7:15 p.m.
- Before the Drill: Faculty members will need to lockdown their area during the drill. It may be helpful to determine how you should lockdown your area, i.e. your classroom, your office area, etc. If you have questions, contact your division dean or you can contact the Vice President of Student Services Office.
- During the Drill: You will be instructed to lockdown your area. You will need to lock, barricade, or block the doorway to secure the door(s) to your classroom or office area. Cover any/all windows (curtains, blinds, etc) and turn out the lights. Remain quiet and calm. A building captain or campus safety/facility staff member will be going through buildings to check if rooms are secure. Unlock your area when the "all clear" signal is given through the loud speaker system.
- After the Drill: If you have feedback on what worked well and what did not, please send an email to richardr@smccd.edu. The Crisis Action Team will be debriefing the drill and would appreciate your feedback.
