She then attended Stanford University to receive her M.S. in mechanical engineering and began a PhD in mechanical engineering researching in engineering education. While at Stanford, Kristyn volunteered in the engineering elective at GMS. She fell in love with the school and realized teaching at a middle school that engages girls in science, technology, and engineering is what she wanted to do. - Thurs, 3/3, 3:30pm – INDUSTRY SPEAKER: Women in Engineering & Science Seminar Maria Yang, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Systems, MIT -- Dr. Yang is an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at MIT. Dr. Yang's research interest is in the process of designing products and systems, particularly in the early phases of the design cycle. Dr. Yang earned her BS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, and her MS and PhD from Stanford University. More recently, she was an Assistant Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California, and before that a postdoctoral instructor of design in the mechanical engineering department of the California Institute of Technology. Dr. Yang’s industrial experience includes serving as Director of Design at Reactivity, a Silicon Valley software company now a part of Cisco Systems. She has done research into collaborative design tools at Apple Computer's Advanced Technology Group and Lockheed Artificial Intelligence Center.
