SAN FRANCISCO STATE UNIVERSITY

Bachelor of Arts in Child and Adolescent Development (CAD)

The CAD program is an interdisciplinary, cross-professional undergraduate degree for students interested in studying issues related to children, adolescents, youth, and families. The CAD degree is designed to provide students with extensive knowledge of child and adolescent development and its applications to services for children and families, research, and public policy development.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program prepares students for entry-level positions in professional nursing practice. The program provides the basis for leadership and graduate education in nursing. Graduates are prepared for staff nurse positions in maternity, pediatrics, medical-surgical nursing, gerontology, psychiatric/mental health, community health, and home-care nursing. Graduates are eligible for RN licensure and Public Health Nursing Certification in California upon completion of the program. BSN graduates practice in a variety of settings including hospitals, community clinics, long term care, home care, and community health agencies. The program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing and accredited by the American Association of Colleges in Nursing (AACN).

Courses in (1) Nutrition and (2) Sociology or Anthropology are required for licensure.
Electives and General Education courses may also be taken concurrently with nursing courses.
In addition to the required nursing curriculum, most students must take extra courses each semester. The courses required will vary for each individual student, and can be determined by conferring with your faculty advisor. Students should meet at least once each semester with their advisor to determine satisfactory progress and plan ahead to meet all graduation requirements on time. baccalaureate degree.

Spanish/English Interpretation Program

This academic certificate program is designed to develop the interpreting skills necessary for service as a Spanish/English interpreter in public and private sectors, such as the courts, state agencies, schools, medical settings, and businesses. Designed to prepare participants to pass the State of California Court Interpreter Certification Exam, the program will train bilingual students for a well-paid, flexible, and in-demand career.

    The cost of the six required courses is approximately $3,560 plus a non-refundable $50 application fee. Texts and optional courses are additional.
  • Program Requirements
    Passing score on bilingual entrance exam
    Minimum of 56 academic semester units in any discipline (approximately two years of college).
  • Admission
    After you have been notified that you have passed the bilingual entrance exam, complete and return an application for admission, with a copy of your test results and a check for the non-refundable application fee of $50.00

The Required courses in this program carry full upper-division academic credit. Some courses may be applied toward a Spanish degree with a faculty advisor approval. Center for Teacher Efficacy

The Center for Teacher Efficacy is a deep, wide-ranging partnership project designed to provide ongoing, meaningful professional development opportunities for area teachers so they can better prepare their diverse students for the future. As the teachers' educational needs change, faculty from the San Francisco State University College of Education offer specialized classes addressing current issues.

The Center for Teacher Efficacy has been in partnership with these institutions:

NOTRE DAME DE NAMUR UNIVERSITY

The curriculum in the Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services is designed to prepare working professionals for positions in both the profit and non-profit employment. Positions in the health and human services fields are varied and diverse. Employees in Human Services often work in mental health organizations, law enforcement, healthcare facilities, employee relations departments, and in government or community advocacy programs. Human Services providers have been challenged to serve clients beyond the basic assistance needed, to address prevention and public awareness of social issues. Corporations also have a renewed commitment to support the broader needs of workers by hiring qualified staff in human resources, benefits administration, and employee assistance.
 
The professional Evening Studies Program facilitates obtaining an undergraduate degree by offering a range of primarily upper division courses for working professionals who wish to complete their college degree within their respective majors and areas of emphasis.  The Business Administration degree provides students with the expertise and knowledge about critical business functions along with a strong liberal arts foundation to provide a balanced perspective on contemporary management and organizational issues.  Students who complete their undergraduatedegree in Business Administration and an accounting minor will also have met the requirements needed to take the professional Certified Public Accounting (CPA) examination.
 
 
This program is designed to broaden the knowledge base, update vital information, and train in key areas of human resources.  The instructors have designed and implemented human resource programs for both the non-profit and for profit sectors.  This program is being developed.  Please check this website for upcoming courses.

 
This program is the only accelerated academic B.A. degree in psychology in the Bay Area.  The curriculum prepares students for graduate work in psychology.  The core curriculum spans different emphases, from the clinical to the social to the experimental.  Special emphasis is on helping the student develp analytic skills and interdisciplinary perspective, through lively classroom work, individual research, and community-based learning experiences.

The Bachelor of Science in Allied Health degree program provides a broad-based foundation in global and national health care issues and trends, ethical and legal issues, health promotion and disease prevention, evidence based practice and allied health care research, health care systems management and health care based informatics.
